High Summer Essentials // The Perfect Summer Dress

As I mentioned in my self care post yesterday, I'm hoping to really grow this little blog of mine, and that means more posts! If you all have any suggestions or requests about what you'd like to read about, please let me know! I'd love to get your feedback!

I don't know about you all, but I have been looking for a summer dress literally all summer long. My ideal summer dress is not form fitting, but flattering, simple, but not plain, and well made. I finally found the perfect dress a couple of weeks ago at Madewell, and I've been wearing it non stop.

Outfit Details.

Dress. The Striped Midi Dress from Madewell. Perfect for every occasion.

Shoes. Target Lois Criss Cross Ballet Flats - under $25!

Hair. DryBar Blow out - check out my Instagram to see more about my blowout experience at DryBar!

This dress is a true midi dress. It hits perfectly mid-calf, has elegant ruffles, pin stripes, and is lined, + my absolute favorite aspect of this dress is the delicate buttons down the back, such a subtle addition, but it really makes the dress stand out.You never have to worry about that after-meal bloat, panty lines, or anything else unflattering. All you have to do is sit back, enjoy the summer breeze, and if you're like me, drink all the iced coffee in sight.

If you're still in the market for the perfect summer dress, I highly recommend this one from Madewell.

Keep up with all the goings-on over on Instagram here!

Detailed Tops // Goodnight Macaroon

I'm curious, have you guys ever ordered from Goodnight Macaroon? It's an online boutique that specializes in on trend, feminine clothing. I recently received a shirt from Goodnight Macaroon and really love it. I always talk about being flexible with your capsule, and I think this shirt is the most flexible I have been. It's definitely more trendy than anything I usually purchase, however I think it fits into my capsule well. It has a simple, elegant design, and is pretty good quality for the price.

Outfit Details.

Top. Goodnight Macaroon - Similar Here and Here

Bottoms. Madewell High Rise Denim Shorts in Washed Black

Kicks. Cole Haan Originalgrand Wingtip Oxford

Clutch. Lou Lou Boutique Oversized Woven Clutch

Necklace. Bauble Bar Charm Necklace Builder (so fun - you get to customize your own charm necklace!)

When I got my top from Goodnight Macaroon, I was surprised with how small the sizing ran. I am pretty much always a size 4 or medium in bottoms and a small in tops. For Goodnight Macaroon, I had to order a large to fit into their clothing. The top I bought is super cute and I've been happy with the quality, considering GM is mostly a fast-fashion company, but I felt I had to share with you all how small their sizes ran. If you're interested in spicing up your capsule, and I highly recommend you do, check out Goodnight Macaroon - I'll link some of my favorites below. However, make sure you can return whatever you buy in case the sizing is off, and order at least a size if not two up. Also, order quickly. They tend to turn over stock a little quickly, so don't wait too long to grab one of their unique pieces.

Here are some of my current favorites that I think would be great for spicing up a very neutral capsule wardrobe from right to left.

Top Row.

Frankie Denim Shredded Hem Side Cut Jeans

Argelia Essential Linen Shirt Dress

Luana Stripped Tied Strap Peplum Top

Bottom Row.

Shanika Stripped Embroidered Peplum Top

Gala V Neck Basic Top

Janessa Stripped Knotted Sleeveless Top

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale // Top Capsule Picks

As I'm sure you all know, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale started yesterday and every blogger ever is talking about it. If you aren't aware, Nordstrom has this huge sale every summer and it means major sales. However, if you aren't a Nordstrom cardholder (have their credit card), you can't shop the sale for a few more days. I don't have a Nordstrom card, for full disclosure, but I have been stalking their Sneak Peak and this is what I have found.

I sought out in search of products that would be good for people with a Capsule Wardrobe (because of course), but even if you don't have a Capsule Wardrobe these are great staples!

Clothing.

Spring/Summer.

Chelsea28 Bell Sleeve Poplin Top - Bell sleeves are a little trendy, but they are a trend I can 100% get behind

BP. Woven Twill Tunic - Perfect white button down

Mavi Jeans Ada Distressed Boyfriend Jeans - I have been in search for some distressed BF jeans and I think these are the pick for me. Some people don't think these are very capsule, but women have been wearing distressed, comfortable jeans for decades. This is definitely not a trend that is going to go out of style any time soon.

Leith Stretch Knit Midi Dress - I love the lilac color and the fact that this dress is stretchy - hello comfort

Theory Telson Rosina Crepe Slipdress - Obsessed with Theory and perfect for those hot summer days

Fall/Winter.

Rag & Bone High Waist Skinny Ankle Jeans - I love the Rag & Bone jeans - they are a little pricey but the quality is so worth it.

Vince Ribbed Wool & Cashmere Sweater - I love the cut of this sweater. I have a very similar version from Ann Taylor that I love and have probably over-worn, but it's a staple of mine every winter. Plus + Sweaters like this are perfect for hiding the holiday pooch. ;)

Leith Shawl Collar Cardigan - Everyone needs a cozy sweater for around the house, the coffee shop, or for running small errands

Fabiana Filippi Sequin Embellished Wool Turtleneck Sweater - a lot of the time capsule wardrobes are ridiculed for being "too neutral" and "bland," which can absolutely happen, but with seemingly simple sweaters like this, you can have a neutral sweater with a pop of embellishment.

Vince Crop Stretch Wool Pants - These are so similar to the Everlane pants I have been stalking for years - I would snatch these up while on sale

Michael Kors Double Face Wool Blend Coat - The most beautiful, simple coat that will last years

St. John Collection Links Knit Wool Cocoon Tunic Sweater - I love the way this almost looks like a cape + that color = *heart eyes*

Shoes + Accessories + Bags.

Madewell Paint Stripe Transport Tote - Available for about $70 off - These Madewell totes are very high quality and very similar to my Nisolo tote. I recommend a large tote bag for anyone on-the-go. I pop my camera, book, wallet, and laptop and am out the door in 5 minutes flat.

NIKE Juvenate SE Sneaker - Who doesn't need a new pair of plain black tennis shoes?

Skagen Anita Leather Strap Watch, 34mm - Goes with everything with gorgeous gold details

Vince Milo Loafer - I have wanted a pair of slide-on-and-go shoes for so long. These are definitely in my cart

Intimates + Beauty.

Natori Rose Dream Custom Coverage Underwire Bra - I am really picky when it comes to bras, but I have one of these and it fits like a dream

Chantelle Intimates Festivite Underwire Contour Bra - Ditto as above - cannot recommend these bras enough

MAC Look in a Box Nice 'n Spicy Lip Kit - The perfect everyday shade

Clarisonic Mia Pink Sonic Skin Cleaning System - If you have sensitive skin that is prone to blackheads like mine, I 100% recommend this guy.

Linen on Linen // Target Style

Can you believe it is already July 4th tomorrow? This year is blowing by! I know I talk about it a lot on here, but oh my gosh is it going to be hot tomorrow. In order to keep cool I've been wearing linen on repeat. The only problem with a lot of linen is that it can be really expensive depending on the brand. I recently found these insanely comfortable Target linen pants and have not been able to take them off - I've even convinced friends they need to get them, and now it's my turn to convince you all!

These bottoms are less than $30, wash easy, and are great for both casual and formal outings - plus, who isn't into the wide-leg trend right now?

Shop the look:

Top. Anthropologie - found on super sale - similar here and here from Madewell (both on sale!)

Bottoms. Target Linen Wide Leg Pants - you guys seriously need these in your life. They are the most comfortable and perfect for summer

Shoes. Hinge 'Mere' Flat Slide Sandal - super comfortable and perfect for a lounge-y day

Bag. Coach - discontinued - similar here from Coach

I'll be spending my fourth of July in comfortable, breathable clothing, hopefully watching some fireworks and making cookies. Happy holiday everyone!

Be sure to follow along on Instagram and twitter!

Casual Style // Coffee Shops

In the summer time, and most of the year, my favorite places to work are coffee shops. The other day I was able to have a creative meeting, one of a weekly series, with my friend Sydney. We like to spend time working every Thursday on our creative side-hustles. Last Thursday we went to the South Congress Hotel's Mañana coffee. Such a great spot for collaborating.

Here is a glimpse at one of my working-at-the-coffee-shop outfits. Three words. Comfy. Casual. + Classic.

Outfit.

Top. Madewell Stripped Tank Top (Now on sale!)

Bottoms. Lucky Brand Sasha Super Skinny Jean

Shoes. Madewell - similar here and on sale!

Bag. Nisolo Lori Tote

Summer Rompers // It's Hot in Austin

It has been excruciatingly hot here in Austin. High temperatures in the 100's and lows in the 80's means we are all dying, and don't even get me started on the mosquitos! The best thing about summer in Austin, however, is all of the summer fashion. Any other season of the year, it's typically too hot to wear all of the cute new styles, or the great classics, but summer is our time to shine, so I thought I'd share with you all a cute little linen romper I've been wearing non stop.

Recently snagged from the huge sale going on with Anthropologie, this little linen has become a staple in my wardrobe. Now, I know what all of you are thinking, "Ami, that isn't capsule wardrobe," but oh contrare my friends. This romper while maybe more "trendy" than most capsule pieces, was well-made with quality fabric, incredibly comfortable, and will come back for next summer.

Here is my little philosophy on capsule wardrobes, if you think you will wear it next year, if you think it will hold up until the next year (and hopefully many years after), then I think it fits the capsule wardrobe label. The thing with capsule wardrobes is that they are very tricky, especially in a world in which most pieces of clothing can hardly last until the end of the current season. We have no idea what our bodies are going to look like next year - maybe we gain a lot of weight, lose some, get pregnant, or our hormones shift and our body shape changes. It's not realistic to plan a strict-capsule-wardrobe when you don't know what your body is going to look like. *stepping off soapbox now*. Here are some photos of this gorgeous summer romper.

Pictured.

Romper - Anthropologie (similar/favorites below)

Shoes - Target Lois Criss Cross Ballet Flats

Bracelet - Bauble Bar - not in circulation

Necklace - Britta Ambauen Jewelry Underline Necklace

And here are some links to my favorite summer rompers/jumpsuits that I am currently in love with.

Elizabeth Suzann Mara Jumpsuit - an all-time favorite - this guy is on my wish list!

Anthropologie Linen Stripped Romper - I love the pattern - very unique but not over the top.

Anthropologie Chantal Jumpsuit - I love this look - very 1920's with pants (lol)

Madewell Apron Bow-Back Jumpsuit - I have had my eyes on this guy for months - love the fabric and the elegant bow detail

Madewell Side-Button Drawstring Romper - similar to the jumpsuit above but in a romper!

James Perse Twisted Strap Romper - In love with this darling denim romper - it looks so cozy and perfect for summer weather.

Stay up-to-date on all my adventures on Instagram.

Catching-Up // Men's Fashion Projects

Wow oh wow has this been a busy spring!

Let’s catch up, shall we?

I’ve been working like a mad woman and enjoying every minute of it. I’m the Marketing Executive for Britta Ambauen: Jewelry to Inspire, and essentially I run everything from our social media to our website to our outreach and photography. If you haven’t checked out Britta Ambauen: Jewelry to Inspire you should to see everything we have been up to! It’s been great to get to work for a job I love, while still going to school and finishing everything up.

I’m currently planning a trip up to Boston - eek! I’m so excited, the last time I was in Boston was when I was living there three years ago. Boston is a magical city - it’s where my fella and I had our first date. <3

Patrick, my fella, and I have been working on a men’s fashion post. All the ins-and-outs of men’s fashion and how guys should take care of themselves - beauty routines and all that jazz.

Here is a sneak peek!

Jacket: H&M Denim Jacket

Pants: UOMens Chinos

Zilker Park // Spring Transitions

Last weekend, my fella came to town and we spent our time together roaming around one of our favorite cities. Sometimes I get stuck in my own little corner of town and rarely make it out. While I love my neighborhood, it's a great feeling to explore and feel like a stranger in your own city.

My favorite moment of the weekend was when we went to Zilker Park with a little picnic and a couple books from our favorite local bookshop, Malvern Books. We spent hours lying in the grass, under our Texas sun, feeling as happy as can be.

It's getting hotter here everyday, which means bye-bye cute winter clothes (although, did we even have a winter?) and hello shorts and tank tops. Spring always hits here a little early, but I wish we could hold on to the winter chill a little longer.

On our park date I chose a functional, spring transition outfit.

Pictured.

Top. Madewell Riverside Textured Sweater (similar color here)

Bottoms. Madewell 9" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Lunar (here)

Shoes. Nisolo Sofia Slip-On in Noir (here)

Hat. Thrifted - I do love antique store finds!

I hope these spring feelings have you happy and adventurous.

Comfy and Casual // Daily Wear

I've been getting asked what sort of outfits I wear on a daily basis with my capsule wardrobe, so I wanted to give you all a glimpse into what my daily wear looks like.

I love casual clothes (it's probably half of my wardrobe) and I try to find pieces that are accessible for multiple occasions.

Pictured here are some of my favorites.

Jeans. Can't go wrong with black denim. Dress 'em up, dress 'em down, they're perfect for errands to a night out. These are from Madewell.

Cardigan. My absolute favorite cardigan/sweater/light jacket/every day coziness is from Bannana Republic. I love this color, tan just goes with everything. Similar here.

Shirt. I love stripes but I am very particular about them. I liked the uniqueness of this top, it's great for casual days out. Here is a stripped shirt I am majorly crushing on from Everlane.

Shoes. My classic Nisolo booties. I pretty much live in these slip-ons. I wear them with everything from jeans to dresses.

Jewelry. Britta Ambauen everything! I can't stop wearing her pieces. They are so well made and accentuate all of my daily wear.

I like to keep things simple. Lots and lots of neutrals are in my wardrobe, and lots of basic/plain tops. I tend to stay away from patterns unless they are really nice stripes.

Smiles in the Sun // Banana Republic Sweater Dress

My favorite go-to recently is this beautiful sweater dress. It's my only sweater dress, and honestly I think it's the only one I need. The grey tones match everything, and the comfy cowl adds warmth and comfort.

Outfit Details.

Dress - Banana Republic Cowl Neck Dress (only available in black here) + on super sale!

Similar dress option here if you're looking for something a bit more sweater-y.

Shoes - Nisolo Sofia Slip-On Noir

New Little Black Dress

Guys, I am in love. I absolutely love, love, love this Kate Spade LBD.

I've found a classic LBD that works in both formal and casual settings. Dress it up with a shall or dress it down with tights, booties, and a jacket. I've been searching for a LBD that fits into a minimal capsule wardrobe while still maintaining a unique charm. This Kate Spade dress features a beautiful, dainty bow, which is what sold me. I couldn't pass up one of Kate Spade's signature bows, especially when placed on a LBD.

The fabric is very durable; however the only problem I have with the dress is the bow. The stitching on the bow is very delicate. If you’re going to buy this dress I would be very careful with the bow because the corners might pop off of their stitch and need to be sown down again. It isn’t a major problem for me, but if you aren’t handy with a needle and thread I would take it into consideration. The Kate Spade LBD's fit me true-to-size with no complications, and hit perfectly above the knee.

Our New Year was filled with so much joy and I hope yours was too. How are your New Year’s resolutions going? If you’re stuck on trying to decide on them, you can check out my post on New Year’s Goals here.

Also, stay tuned for a post on LBDs I am currently drooling over! Everyone needs an LBD in their life, so I'm going to compile a list of the most classic versatile LBDs I've fallen in love with.

Out and About - Outfit Details

As my birthday present from Patrick, he got us tickets to see David Sedaris play “The Santaland Diaries” at the Alley Theatre. Dressing up for these events out is one of my favorite challenges. You want to look nice but not too nice with a dash of your own classic style. I took a modern spin on the Little Black Dress and added a navy coat to spice things up.

Outfit Details.

For this look I paired navy and black - one of my favorite color combinations - to get the perfect classic night out look.

Dress. Old Navy Black Sweater Dress (similar here). This dress fits loose perfectly. I wear it for running errands around town, date nights, and it's even cozy enough to wear just lounging.

Coat. Zara Basics Navy Crepe Frock Coat (different color option here). I absolutely love this coat. It is a new addition to my winter capsule, and I couldn't be more in love with the fit. I'm wearing a medium in this photo and I normally wear a small in other brands, so I would recommend sizing up.

Shoes. (Not Pictured). Cole Haan Heels (here). There is something so perfect about a solid black leather heel. Cole Haan is one of my favorite brands for this classic capsule staple. The shoe fits absolutely perfectly, molds to your foot over time, and lasts. Mine are very true to size and I had little to no problems breaking them in.

Bag. Nisolo Lori Tote Brandy (here). You all have heard me gush about this bag before. I use it for everything - from a work bag to grocery bag to going out bag! Fits everything perfectly and is the best neutral to complement any outfit.

We had a wonderful time out at the theatre, if you’ve ever read any of David Sedaris books, you can expect the same kind of humor in his hilarious one-man play. I love the holidays, they give me the excuse of seeing holiday plays and ballets. Up Next: The Nutcracker!

Cozy, Drool-Worthy, Winter Coats

Winter is in full swing, which means bundling up and staying warm! To keep you cozy this winter season I've compiled a list of my favorite coats by some of my favorite sustainable brands. (Which after second glance, are all brands starting with “E”....).

Everlane.

One of my favorite pieces from Everlane is their Unstructured Coat, it looks incredibly versatile and warm. I love the symetrical design coupled with quality fabric - definitely looks like it will last years. Also, Everlane is currently doing free 2-day shipping, so be sure to grab this coat before the holidays (would also make a great gift!).

Elizabeth Suzann.

A favorite of mine based in Nashville, TN. The ES team makes all products to order and craftes them with precision. I love the Cocoon Coat as a part of their cold weather collection (it's very similar to my vintage camel coat), but unfortunately they are sold out for this season. Here is a link to a great alternative, the Harper Sweater Dress (also in camel). You can easily pull this guy over your outfit to keep warm and use it as an overcoat.

Esby.

A local to me, this Austin shop is home to the Ramona Duster in Black. A lovely coat that easily transitions from fall to winter and keeps you nice and cozy throughout the cold weather seasons. Currently Esby is doing a promotion for 20% off outerwear with code "KEEPWARM"

EmLee.

Another Nashville local, EmLee has made the Sara Cape in Deep Plum. A perfect color for a winter capsule piece, a cozy coat to keep you warm, and a handmade touch. I love following EmLee along and looking at all of their cozy winter pieces. Everything looks as though it would fit around you in the same snuggly way a blanket would!

These are just a few coats I have found that are similar to mine that I wanted to share with you all. I hope everyone is staying warm and cozy this winter!

Capsule Update. Favorite Fall Booties

Alright friends, I think I have found my soul mate in a bootie. My good friends over at Nisolo have come out with an incredible bootie that is incredibly accessible and fits ever-so nicely into your capsule.

The Sofia Noir has been THE shoe I cannot stop wearing. I have never found a bootie so high quality with such a unique design that is also so comfortable.

Here is how I have been styling these bad boys.

(Click the photos to head directly to Nisolo and check these cutie-booties out!)

I like to wear these guys casually and daily but they are very versatile and can be worn more formally. There will be another post on here very soon about dressing up these booties.

Jewelry. From Day to Night.

Take your capsule wardrobe pieces from day to night by altering the jewelry to your already classic look.

Changing into a going-out outfit can be stressful, tiring, and a hassle. Between finding the perfect look to actually changing out of your work clothes, sometime you’re looking to transition from day to night with ease and minimal effort.

I’ve partnered with Britta Ambauen to showcase two classic looks that take you from day to night without changing your outfit.

Taking your look from day to night has never been easier, thanks to Britta Ambauen’s timeless, effortless jewelry. Switching from day to night is as simple as rearranging your day jewelry into a more fun and carefree style.

Day Look Details.

My day look features stacked necklaces, bangles, two rings, and a set of very elegant earrings. A perfect look for a business-casual day at the office.

Transitioning from a day to night look has never been easier. With the chain necklace, which features a dual clasp, you can rearrange the necklace into almost any design you’d like, wrap bracelet, stacked necklace, scoop-back necklace, or even a head piece.

Night Look Details.

When I took my look from day to night, the only aspect of my outfit that I altered was the Favorite Gold Chain necklace. I wanted to create a look that was fun to wear and made me feel confident, so I switched my Favorite Gold Chain necklace from a traditional necklace to a head-piece. Using the dual clasps I was able to effortlessly put this head-piece together, and it changed the entire mood of my outfit from business-casual to night-out-ready.

If you're interested in this look, head to my Instagram tomorrow to see how you can win some Britta Ambauen jewelry!

Late Summer Staples

Living in Austin, fall doesn’t quite hit us as fast as it does for everyone else. Our warmer temperatures, however, mean that we can wear our summery frocks for a bit longer, soak in a little extra sun, and eat popsicles and ice cream without our insides freezing.

It can be difficult to try and wear appropriate fall-transition clothes without dying from heat stroke, which is why I paired a fun and an almost fall-ready outfit the other day.

Outfit Details:

Top – Old Navy (similar here in a different color)

Bottoms – Ann Taylor Loft

Jacket – old (similar here from Madewell)

Bag – ONA Bags The Bowery

Shoes – Nisolo Oliver Oxford in Brandy

Jewelry – Britta Ambauen (Marquis Tower Earrings, Gold Wrap Bangle, Mountain Range Bangle, Gold Wrap Ring, Underline Necklace)

Hair - Birds Barbershop

I loved wearing this outfit to the farmers market last weekend. It’s a fun, casual outfit perfect for daily errands or lounging at home! It’s light and breezy while still being cute. It was so fun getting to spend some time with Patrick, finding quality, local food. One of our favorite Austin small business is Kokonut Yogurt! Totally changing the yogurt game. I heartily recommend, whether or not you are dairy-free/vegan. There may be a yogurt-based fall recipe up on the blog soon!

Fall Transition Pieces

As September starts, colder weather is headed in, and with it comes lovely fall fashion! I’m making the transition to a fall capsule a little early this year as wishful thinking that maybe it won’t be incredibly hot in Texas anymore.

Here are a couple pieces I’m currently loving

Outfit Details.

1.

Madewell Jeans, Calvin Klein Shoes, Topshop Shirt (in black), Nisolo Bag, Britta Ambauen Jewelry (Don't forget, you can still get 10% off your order when you use code HIMONAMI10)

2.

UO Corduroy Skirt, Esby Apparel Shirt, Britta Ambauen Jewelry

3.

Thrifted Trousers (similar here from Everlane), NO Shop Shirt, Calvin Klein Shoes, Britta Ambauen Jewelry

As fall weather comes in, embrace that crisp chill in the air. I love summer as much as the next girl, but fall is my absolute favorite time of year. The air smells better, pumpkins are everywhere, and the world seems a little happier. I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for your fall capsule/closet!

Accessorize Your Capsule

Finding capsule jewelry can be a tricky process. You want to find pieces that are good quality, will last you a long time, and won’t break the bank. I’ve partnered with Britta Ambauen Jewelry to showcase some truly gorgeous pieces that fit effortlessly into your capsule.

Finding the right jewelry for you is very important. You need to find pieces that accurately represent your personality and style, pieces you connect with, and pieces that will remain classic.

Here is how I decide my jewelry.

The Metal.

Depending on your skin tone might decide what metals you like to wear. I personally have a golden brown/caramel skin tone, which pairs very well with gold tones. Once you’ve decided what metal fits with your tone the best, look to buy genuine metals. Your body can tell the difference between cheap nickel and genuine sterling silver (hello, yucky green band around your finger). Only buy the good stuff, otherwise you’ll have to throw it out in a couple of weeks and we’re looking for pieces that need to last years.

The Design.

Look at how the metal is shaped. Try and find pieces that aren’t too crazy geometric, stick with timeless designs like thin bands, round edges, simple cuffs. I look to buy a balance between daily jewelry and special occasion jewelry, pieces that you can wear effortlessly all the time.

Gems.

One of my favorite lines from Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is “of course, I think it would be tacky if I wore diamonds before I’m thirty.” I think choosing gems is dependent on your age. I don’t think I could ever wear diamonds, like Audrey said, before I’m thirty. All other gems, on the other hand, are fair game. I love spicing up my fancy jewels with a nice ruby or sapphire. I’m currently obsessed with this amethyst necklace Britta made, it’s a perfect neutral tone on elegant silk lace It goes with everything and is easily stackable.

Have fun with textures.

I have a couple of bangles that stack wonderfully and they have a variety of textures. I like giving a little bit of variety of shape to my jewelry to keep things interesting. Mess around with textures, find what looks good to you, and try to keep it as simple as possible.

Keep it simple.

When styling your daily jewelry, keep it simple. You don’t want to overload your body with jewelry. Think of your capsule jewelry as a way to accentuate your current outfit. I like to add a small necklace, a ring (or two if I’m feeling crazy), and a small bracelet stack. If you have some wonderful little studs, I’d definitely put those bad boys in as well. Have fun with it!

Since Britta is amazing, and her jewelry is amazing, we want to share it with you! When you shop her site use code HIMONAMI10 at checkout to receive an extra 10% off your order!

Anniversaries: Gift Ideas, Outfit Ideas, and Date Ideas

Patrick and I started dating two years ago. Since we started dating we’ve pushed each other creatively and professionally to be better in our work. It’s been so nice to be with someone who is creative-minded, positive, and supportive.

For our anniversary, it kind of snuck up on us. We weren’t super prepared for the day, but we made the most of it! I want to share with you what we did, give you all a couple tips/suggestions for date nights or anniversaries, and ideas for anniversary gifts.

For our special day we went into downtown Houston and explored some wonderful local restaurants, recreated our favorite movie scenes, and (of course) stopped for our favorite cup of coffee.

Lunch at Les Givral’s.

This wonderful little shop has two locations, the original in downtown or a newer version on Washington Ave. If you love Vietnamese food like we do, this place is a must-try. I got a charcoal BBQ Pork Bahn Mi sandwich (for only $3.50!) and Patrick tried the charcoal chicken vermicelli. Oh my, some of the absolute best Vietnamese food we have ever had. So moist, flavorful, and fresh. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly date spot, we cannot recommend Les Givral’s more.

The Menil.

We love going to museums. It’s a nice change of pace for us, and it’s really nice to go find some local culture! We really love the Menil because it’s filled with a wide variety of art and it’s surrounded by a gorgeous green space. We like to pack picnics and hangout by the gorgeous architecture of the Menil on the weekends. It’s a nice, quiet space to enjoy your time together. (We especially like going to museums and playing “What does the artist mean by that…?” with ever piece, it definitely gets your creativity flowing!)

Coffee at Catalina.

Catalina is one of our favorite coffee shops in Houston. We love taking books, cameras, and games to play together as we enjoy some coffee and tea. There is a lovely little side patio that is great for some time away from the bustle of the café.

Reenacting scenes from our favorite movie at Ikea.

(500) Days of Summer is by-far one of our favorite movies. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are a wonderful pair who act together beautifully. P and I love watching (500) Days of Summer on rainy days where we can sit back and enjoy the amazing soundtrack. One of our favorite scenes in the movie is when Tom and Summer go to Ikea for the first time and pretend they are living in each showroom set. P and I like to bounce from one set to the next, running through the store, holding hands, acting like goofs, and recreating this wonderful scene.

Dinner at Opus.

To end our anniversary day of adventures we headed down towards the water to enjoy some wonderful seafood and steak at Opus Bistro. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive, and the food is a work of art. We love sitting upstairs near the window, and enjoying our time together. We had wonderful a seafood pasta in a chardonnay sauce and a Gorgonzola glazed steak with potatoes and green beans (P’s favorite!). We also recommend trying the New Zealand lamb chops; it’s one of our absolute favorites!

For some outfit ideas for date-night or an anniversary, here are some options we love:

For her.

Black jeans, a simple and comfortable top, and reliable shoes (especially if you walk around as much as we do). I currently love Seychelles sketch toe-loop sandal in black. They go with everything, are really well made, and are the most comfortable fashionable sandal I’ve ever worn.

Day Outfit Details: Top - Nordstrom (brand: Abound), jeans - Madewell, shoes -  Michael Kors, bag - ONA

Night Outfit Details: Dress - Nordstrom (brand: Leith), shoes - Calvin Klein, watch - Fossil, clutch - Fossil

For him.

Tan chinos, a casual button down, and oxfords. P likes to add his Fossil watch and a pocket square to his outfit to make it a bit more special.

Day Outfit Details: Chinos - Urban Outfitters, shoes - Bass, watch - Fossil

Night Outfit Details: Slacks - Nordstrom, shoes - G.H. Bass, watch - Fossil, top - Polo

Here are some great gift ideas for her and for him that are perfect for any special occasion:

For her.

Simple earrings. I love the idea of well-made, minimal pieces you can wear everyday. It’s a small reminder of your partner when you’re out and about.

Engraved bracelet. This is so simple and yet so sweet. You could engrave your initials, the date you started dating, a favorite quote, anything to make her smile. A lovely sentiment that is sure to make her swoon.

Show her you support her. I’m a photographer and I’ve been using the same, old camera bag for a while. P thought it would be a nice way to support my creativity by getting me a lovely ONA bag (which I will never go without, now!). Something simple that shows her you listen and support her.

For him.

Everyday watch. Last year for our anniversary I got P a casual, minimal Fossil watch that he wears everyday now. (I also got it engraved, and he absolutely loved it!)

Show him you support him. Similar to getting me a camera bag this year, I got P a leather journal with his name embossed on the front to show him I support his writing. Small gifts like this are wonderful when expressing your love to your partner.

A wallet. Some guys have really old wallets that need to be thrown out. A nice, small gift to get him is a leather wallet that he won't have to worry about. A well-made wallet will last him years and he'll think of you every time he uses it.

We had a wonderful anniversary together. It's so nice to find someone you can really be yourself around. Here's to many more!

The Perfect Bag

Have you ever found yourself in need of a bag that's gorgeous, timeless, affordable, high quality, and spacious, but not too big?

The bag you can take to work every day, the bag you can go out on the town with, the bag that matches every outfit, and the bag that you can travel with?

Well, I'm pretty sure I have found that bag, the perfect bag. My good friends at Nisolo make high-quality, minimal, affordable leather goods, and I have fallen in love with their Lori Tote in Brandy

Here are the reasons why I think the Lori Tote is the perfect bag:

It's gorgeous.

I love the genuine leather. I get compliments on my bag all the time because it looks absolutely timeless; a true classic staple. I am very glad I went with the brandy color for my Lori Tote because it is so universal. I can pair my tote with pretty much every single outfit and it matches effortlessly. No matter what look you're going for, this bag should be a staple in your wardrobe, and if you're looking to curate a capsule wardrobe, this should be number one on your list (it was on mine).

It's high quality.

I was apprehensive the straps would give out eventually, especially if I loaded the bag with all of my work, but after six months of putting the Lori Tote to the test, I can say with certainty that it is a very high quality, sturdy bag. I can't get over how well-made it is, the bottom of the bag has a single seam that holds everything together, and I doubt it will ever pop open. This bag will definitely last you for years.

It's the perfect size.

I have used my bag for everything from a work bag to a weekend trip bag to a farmers market grocery bag. I take it with me absolutely everywhere, and it fits all of my belongings effortlessly. I love this bag for exploring new cities, going to different meet-ups and talks, or just walking around an art-fair. I can fit my camera and lenses (in a protective bag), a laptop, my wallet, sunnies, and more in this gem! Perfect exploration bag.

Nisolo as a company is also genuinely amazing. Every product is handmade by craftsmen and craftswomen in Peru. They take really great care of their products through every step of the transaction, and as a customer you're never left in the lurch. Nisolo does a lot to make you feel like you just found your best friend. They treat their customers with respect, and it shows through the high quality craftsmanship of their products.

My next item on the Nisolo shopping list is the Oliver Oxford in Slate Grey. These bad boys are perfect for a capsule wardrobe; they match everything and are a classic staple. If these shoes are anything like my Lori Tote, I know they will be a great investment and last me many years.
